Education (Classes & Presentations)



​Classes

NAMI Northern Virginia offers free classes throughout the year for those living with a mental health condition, as well as for their family members and loved ones.
  • NAMI Peer-to-Peer Class: 8-week, 16-hour learning and support program for adults (18+) living with a mental health condition who wish to work towards wellness. This class is offered at no cost to participants, and is taught by a team of NAMI-trained peer mentors who have personal experience living with a mental health condition.
  • NAMI Young Adult Peer-to-Peer Class: 10-session learning and support program for adults (18+) living with a mental health condition who wish to work towards wellness. NAMI Young Adult Peer-to-Peer targets a younger audience than NAMI Peer-to-Peer (ages 18-36).
  • NAMI Family-to-Family Class: 8-week, 20-hour program for family members and loved ones of individuals living with a mental health condition. This class is offered at no cost to participants, and is taught by a team of NAMI-trained family members who have been there.
  • NAMI Basics: 15-hour class for parents and caregivers of children living with a behavioral, developmental, or mental health condition. This class is offered at no cost to participants.

Presentations

NAMI Northern Virginia offers free community presentations throughout the year for a variety of audiences in order to change attitudes, assumptions, and ideas about people living with mental health conitions.
  • NAMI Ending The Silence Presentation: 50-minute presentation through which high school students learn about mental health conditions from a NAMI-trained young adult presenter living with a mental illness.
  • NAMI In Our Own Voice Presentation: 90-minute education and awareness presentation through which NAMI-trained presenters living with a mental health condition share their stories hope and recovery.
