Founded in 1977 as Pathways to Independence, the organization joined the newly formed "National Alliance on Mental Illness" in 1979 and soon changed its name to NAMI Northern Virginia. Since its inception, NAMI Northern Virginia has provided support, education, and hope to individuals and families whose lives have been affected by mental illness. Today, NAMI Northern Virginia provides a wide variety of programs, free to participants, making a difference in the lives of over a thousand people a year. Check back for more History, coming soon!
