Virtual NAMIWalks 2020 Community Partners Resource Fair

In any other year, our annual walk is an event where we are able to invite various community partners to come out to share information about their organization and the resources they provide. With this year's walk being virtual, so too will our NAMIWalks 2020 Community Partners Resource Fair.

Check out our Community Partners and all of the awesome work they do in the Northern Virginia community, below!

The Arc of Northern Virginia
For more than 57 years, The Arc of Northern Virginia has worked to promote and protect the human rights of people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) and actively support their full inclusion and participation in the community throughout their lifetimes.
Today, we serve more than 39,000 individuals with ID/DD and their families in the cities and counties of Alexandria, Arlington, Fairfax and Falls Church by providing information and referral to help caregivers navigate complex systems through each stage of their loved one’s life; providing financial management through our Special Needs Trust; and advocating on the local and state levels for better policies and funding for the needs of people with disabilities.
The Barry Robinson Center
As a premier non-profit behavioral health system, our residential program for boy and girls, ages 6-17, treats a wide range of mental health disorders. We also offer a fully accredited school for our residents during their stay with us. We are TRICARE-approved, with expertise and focused concentration on solely helping children from military families throughout the U.S. and overseas. Our 32-acre open college-like campus on the border of Norfolk and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Check out this video to learn more.

Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board
The Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board provides services for people of all ages in our community who have mental illness, substance use disorders and/or developmental disabilities. Our staff and contracted service providers include psychiatrists, psychologists, nurses, counselors, therapists, case managers, peer specialists, and “behind the scenes” administrative and support staff. We partner with community organizations, faith communities, businesses, schools and other local government agencies in many ways to provide the services people need, and to be good neighbors in the community.
Fairfax County Special Education PTA (SEPTA)
Fairfax County SEPTA is a PTA that addresses the needs of students with disabilities, their families, and the educators who serve them throughout Fairfax County.  Like any PTA we raise money to provide ways to meet the unique needs of our students, families, and educators. We have a website with important reference information (FairfaxCountySEPTA.org), monthly meetings with topics that address member needs, a very active Facebook group for questions and discussions, mini-grants for educators, and awards for exemplary service.  Each year we identify a limited number of issues on which to focus our advocacy for change within the school system.  By working with the FCPS administration and School Board, we have brought about constructive change within the school system in each of the school years since our start in 2017.

Formed Families Forward
We are a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting foster, kinship, and adoptive families of children and youth with disabilities and other special needs. We serve families, educators and child welfare professionals in the Northern Virginia area.
Formed Families Forward’s mission is to improve developmental, educational, social, emotional and post-secondary outcomes for children and youth with disabilities and other special needs through provision of information, training and support to adoptive and foster parents, and kinship caregivers. Feel free to contact us at info@formedfamiliesforward.org or 703-539-2904
OAR
OAR assists adults involved with the criminal justice system and their families. OAR implements pre-release and post incarceration programs in Fairfax, Prince William, and Loudoun Counties. OAR helps its clients break the cycle of crime and lead productive lives. OAR services address the underlying causes of criminal behavior and provide the opportunities necessary to overcome the collateral consequences that result from a criminal conviction. Comprehensive reentry services are critical because the population requires unique services not provided by traditional social service providers. Without OAR there is a significant service gap that leaves many formerly incarcerated community members vulnerable to continued criminal behavior and re-incarceration. OAR services effectively break the cycle of crime and create safer communities.
