Walk Manager

DESCRIPTION

NAMI Northern Virginia is a non-profit, membership and volunteer-based organization. Our mission is to bring education and support to individuals living with mental illness, families and friends, and the public, throughout the Northern Virginia Community.  Through our programs and events we seek to inspire hope and raise awareness.

POSITION SUMMARY:


Reports to:  Executive Director

Status: Part-time, 20 hours per week

Salary: $15-$18 per hour, commensurate with background and experience

Start Date: Immediate (negotiable)

General Function: Under the direction of the Executive Director, the Walk Manager is responsible for managing and coordinating the annual NAMIWalks Northern Virginia event, as well as coordinating special projects from time-to-time.


SPECIFIC DUTIES:

Coordinate and manage the annual NAMIWalks Northern Virginia including, but not limited to:

  • Coordinate local NAMIWalks Northern Virginia events:  Walk Information Meeting, Kick-off Luncheon, Walk, and post-walk Recognition Event

  • Recruit, train and communicate with key volunteers, including Team Captains

  • Solicit sponsorships

  • Coordinate Walk logistics

  • Communicate with NAMI National NAMIWalks staff

  • Assist individuals with the NAMIWalks website and online registrations

  • Coordinate development and production of electronic and print materials

  • Coordinate public announcements about Walk

  • Walk volunteer coordination and recognition

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Commitment to NAMI Northern Virginia Mission

  • Bachelors degree preferred

  • Walk planning experience preferred

  • Ability to focus on details

  • Self-starter and independent worker

  • Ability to meet deadlines and work under pressure

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills

  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to handle multiple projects and deadlines

  • Computer skills: Word, Excel, Internet; Social Media a plus

  • Strong people skills

  • Team player and positive attitude a must

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

  • Ability to travel to meetings in Northern Virginia (travel reimbursed)

  • Occasional weekend and evening activities

  • Flexibility in schedule
