When: Thursday, July 7th Where: Ornery Brew Pub, 3950 University Dr. #209, Fairfax, VA 22030 Time: 5pm -7pm NAMI Family-to-Family is a free, 8-session education program for family, friends, and significant others of adults with mental health conditions. NAMI Family-to-Family provides information about anxiety, depressive disorders, schizophrenia, bipolar disorder, and other mental health conditions. Other topics covered include communication, problem-solving, treatment, and recovery.
The course is designed to increase understanding and advocacy skills while helping participants maintain their own well-being. The program is taught by trained family members who have a loved one with a mental health condition. NAMI Family-to-Family is an evidence-based program (EB). Class Schedule: Wednesdays, July 6th – August 24th Time: 7:00 pm - 9:30 pm Location: Virtual (you will receive a Zoom link after your registration is confirmed) Registration: complete this registration form and a facilitator will follow up with you to complete the registration. Grief can come in many forms and affect us in countless ways: body, mind, and soul. It can be pushed to hidden in parts of our lives we rarely visit or show up in bursts that feel overwhelming. Grief is a human experience and response that deserves and needs tending. This presentation will offer an introduction to helpful vocabulary, myths/misconceptions, mind/body connections and mental health considerations. Attendees will have the opportunity to explore personal perspectives and ask questions in an empathetic and supportive environment.
When: June 27th Time: 7pm - 8:30pm Where: Virtual on YouTube Live Natalie Jensen, a Supervisee in Social Work at Sunstone Counseling, utilizes integrative techniques when working with clients through a strength-based, whole person-centered approach. She has experience working in diverse locations, with a variety of cultural and identity considerations. Natalie specializes in working with adult individuals referencing grief and loss, trauma, PTS, stress management, life transitions, relationship and family dynamics, anxiety, depression, disruption of thoughts, feelings, and emotions. She incorporates aspects of IFS (Internal Family Systems), CBT (Cognitive Behavioral Therapy), DBT (Dialectical Behavioral Therapy), Somatic - mind/body connection, and psychodynamic practices as applicable. As a PESI certified Clinical Trauma Professional, Natalie adheres to compassionate and trauma informed care, supporting personal growth, empowerment, and improved well-being. Natalie is an active member of the NASW (National Association of Social Workers). We need to reimagine our crisis response system to one that offers help, not handcuffs. She is currently the Director of Acute Services for the Fairfax-Falls Church Community Services Board managing a 24/7 Emergency Services, Mobile Crisis Services, and Wellness Circle which is a 16 bed Crisis Stabilization Unit. Previously she was the Director of Inova Behavioral Health Access Services, supervisor of Inova CATS (Comprehensive Addiction Treatment Services), supervisor of the Fairfax County Mobile Crisis Unit. Abbey has served on the Police Psychologist team MM Psychological Services to Fairfax County Police Department for the past 11 years providing critical incident support to law enforcement, and training. Additionally, she maintained a private practice for 14 years providing psychotherapy to adults and adolescents. She has specialized training in critical incidence response, grief and loss, trauma, substance use, and mindfulness. Lisa Potter is the Director of Diversion Initiatives for Fairfax County and her work with Diversion First spans multiple systems, including health and human services, public safety and the courts. She has worked for Fairfax County Government for over 25 years, in various clinical and administrative positions, and has extensive experience in data analysis and evaluation, strategic planning, program development and cross-system services. PFC Joseph Schlenz is the Lead Crisis Intervention Training Instructor at the Criminal Justice Academy-Law Enforcement Training Unit for the Fairfax County Police Department Crisis Intervention Team (CIT). Anna Strasburger has been involved in the mental health community for over a decade. After working for years with her own mental health challenges, she realized she could offer her experiences as a way to help others with their own journeys and recovery. She explored various ways to put her passion in service to others and finally found her calling through her work as a Certified and Registered Peer Recovery Specialist. Outside of her peer recovery work, Anna volunteers in different capacities which include mentoring young adults on their mental health journeys, presenting for the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI)'s In Our Own Voice and Ending the Silence programs, and by serving on her local Community Services Board and Mental Health Committee. Anna also works at Mental Health America of Virginia and at a premiere wellness center in Arlington that supports holistic healing in her community. May is Mental Health Awareness Month and we are joining with local organizations and companies to raise awareness and funds to support access to mental health care and support services. Join us at these public awareness events to show the Northern Virginia community is together for mental health. Honest Soul Yoga (Falls Church) NAMI Donations Flow Flow for a cause! In honor of Mental Health Awareness Month, Honest Soul Yoga is offering a donation-based yoga class to support us, at NAMI Northern Virginia.
